A great writer came down to ride with us last January. Here’s what he wrote:
“Kipchoge Spencer was somewhere in Mexico, and so was I. We had that going for us. But other than knowing that Spencer and his rock band, the Ginger Ninjas, were riding bicycles across the state of Jalisco, I was clueless, and [...]

Short sweet vid of mexico trip

Friday, July 25th, 2008

We spent some fun and frustrating times putting this little 3-minute vid together. Let’s just say that after the 1000th edit, iMovie can get a little flaky. Dig.

Band Trials and Triumphs

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

The short story is that we finally have an ass-kicking, road-worthy band, contrary to my as-recent-as-December belief that it might be completely impossible. It’s hard enough to find great musicians who have spare time for a new project, and want to work with your music, and who have the drive are sober enough to get [...]

Playing Shows With or Without Pedal Power

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

In Morelia we went to a club to play a gig. They have all their big sound equipment set up for us to plug in. It was a big place and the equipment looked good. So we did not use the bikes. I sat outside trying to figure out what to do with the [...]

Butterflies

Friday, March 14th, 2008

We rode our bikes from the butterfly preserve to Angangeo, past and through hundreds of butterflies. I would just stop and stare at them i was in such amazement. Here is a shot of Chava riding with the butterflies down into the city. It was magical. I would just drift off watching them….

From Mazamitla to Morelia (5 days worth)

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Okay… now, I’ll catch you all up on the ride from Mazamitla to Morelia. There are five days of riding through the countryside to talk about, so I’m breaking it down day by day to the best of my memory.
We left the cabin in Mazamitla on Monday, February 25th, and headed out of town on a different road than that of [...]

Uphill to Mazamitla and back down and back up again…

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

First: Huge thanks to my friend, David Demarest, for letting me use his patented water-proof bag. It’s super useful. www.DemarDesigns.com. THANKS! Well, I’ve been writing this blog for a while now, bit by bit as I’m near a computer, and finally finished it on March 1st. A lot has happened along the way, so this is a long one. [...]

Chapala, Ajijic, and the Sweat Lodge

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Written around February 22nd or so. Last I wrote, we had just played the University and were getting ready for a 42 km trip from Guadalajara to Chapala. Well, Friday, I made it to Chapala… barely. I had a little trouble with one particular uphill climb. A mild heat exhuastion issue, but once I rested I [...]

My first day in Mexico was big!

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Written on February 11th. Mexico has been amazing! After a crazy ride from the airport, I got to the house and everyone was getting up to go for a bike ride with the mayor of Guadalajara. Then, we played a gig downtown for a great crowd (LOTS of excited people) and got a little rest [...]
