Organic certification of food gives consumers info that enables us to support things we like and avoid things we don’t. Theoretically. The theory breaks down when producers successfully cheat the certification process and don’t comply with the spirit of the system. Such is the case with “organic” dairy producers who keep their cows in feedlots rather than in the grass where they belong.
In response, we can boycott.
“The Organic Consumers Association is expanding its boycott of Horizon and Aurora organic dairy products to include five national “private label” organic milk brands supplied by Aurora, as well as two leading organic soy products, Silk and White Wave, owned by Horizon’s parent company, Dean Foods.”
You can easily send a letter to the CEOs of the target companies to let them know that you’re boycotting, and you can also let your local retailer know. Some retailers themselves are boycotting.
Do you want your milk from this “organic” farm?

OR this one?

Meanwhile, back on the berry farm, your organic field hand might not be getting treated much better than his conventional counterpart. Consumers of the world, be vigilant!
