Bike for Office
6:17 pm, by tricky coyoteIt seems more and more candidates are choosing to take their campaigns to the street via Xtracycle. Ok, so, there are two that I know of, but that seems like a lot. Last fall, Craig Kelley ran for city council in Cambridge, MA, using his long bike as the primary campaign vehicle. He used it to carry lawn signs, as well as to hold impromptu electorate smoothie sessions with his B3 Blender. That ’s what I call roots, especially when you see that he was running against people who spent 80 Gs. He won.
That might be part of what inspired long time biker Rod Bryan to get an Xtracycle and take his pro-people message to the streets and roads of Arkansas. He’s running for Governor and has a sweet image of dueling Hummers on his homepage. I sense a movement.
Rod’s band, ho hum, got signed by RCA in the mid 90s and he told me how lame it was. “Be careful what you ask for.”

matt gonzalez came awful close to being san francisco’s first green mayor a couple years back. xtracycles appeared to be the unofficial campaign vehicle. critical mass was re-dubbed critical matt at least once. so close, so close…
