Help Design Our T.V. Show
6:30 pm, by tricky coyoteI’ve been asking you all to vote in our silly (i’m being kind) little reality t.v. game these last few weeks because of the prize: our own show on mtv, about whatever we want. Well, the contest show was so stupid (there, I said it), that, lo and behold, it didn’t get good ratings, so the network cancelled it. But not altogether. They actually just sent it to near-death on the commercial-laden-windows-only-and-you-better-have-fast-ass-dsl mtv web site. I actually like it better now, because it’s just the mini-episodes and a little commentary from Mr. Dick, without the contrived, vapid game element. But the winner is still going to get an actual tv show.
Today I asked the producers how many episodes the winning show gets. Two, or maybe four, or maybe six, or basically it completely depends on how good, um, popular, the show is. So I got to thinking, what if it was really good, I mean popular? Well we could get several (or infinite?) episodes of half-hour show showing the mtv-watching millions of the world that there’s another way of life. I’ve talked about this before. But now I’m excited again, and I want your ideas.
The show can really be about most anything, with these caveats: It has to appeal to the mtv crowd (12-18 yr-old, primarlily); it has to have bicycle lifestyle; it has to have Ginger Ninjas; and it better inspire people to get crackin’ to revolutionize their and our world! Please send your ideas.

I once thought (and mentioned on my site) “Queer Eye for the Bike Guy” would make a good TV show. This was a good natured dig on some folks I know who fret endlessly over the aesthetic details of their bikes, then never actually ride them.
Seriously though, I think that the show would be best as a literal REALITY show, wherein you do the stuff you do anyway, but you do it on bikes. Of course, for TV aimed at 12-18 year olds, there are some mundane aspects of life that don’t need to be aired. But all the cool stuff: going to concerts an parties, the beach, etc, all on bikes. And they need to be Xtracycles (naturally), and you need to pull off lots of interesting feats of hauling passengers and/or cargo. I know this idea doesn’t seem very creative (my wife is the creative one around here) but I think anything more exotic will detract from the message that bikes are for everybody, even really cool people who lead really interesting lives.
Then again, I might be wrong. If all else fails, get some air-headed girls with fake boobs to dress in skimpy clothes whilst they engage in swinging on vines in the jungle and eating pickled sheep scrotums and slimy worms in hopes of winning a bunch of money.

Hey fellow peace pushin’ peddlers, (or is that peace peddle pushers?) me kimji (aka Kim from Davis; the one -in a million- who works for God (aka God/Buddah/Mother Nature) in the human species department.
YEAH! LET’S DO IT!
“… show the mtv-watching millions … there’s another way of life.”
Yet (let’s show them) in a perverse, sideways, less then mature (because they-mtv-ers- are (less mature than some of you and i)) way -content, format etc.
(for when) Intent is to communicate [as for to] convey -
the only path [way] is through them (they we wish *- HEY I MADE A WISH ! FEELS LIKE I JUST WON THE LOTTERY. A ‘wish’ and a ‘lottery’. Me.! My God (mean that literally) b r e a t h . hmmmhmooommmm.
and [more] breath -release-bliss-physical smile {and abrupt-like}, for so there [my physical, mindful, emotionless self] - ie. aware and pleased (calmed) of the passing (done-ness/accomplished) thing (task -God/I/All regarding my little personal present walk here on earth) presented. Should (seemingly/maybe -yet know better) paste this in journal and delete from this email/response
- as is un-understandable to anyone reading - for exclusively my (and thus All) revelation …See was supposed to-rather called upon to “wish”-to have/make one-for myself a couple wks ago, and hadn’t one/could not ‘find’ (come up with) a wish in me. So, Done. [Did] Have had a wish. And (this occurrence) so happened in midst of typing this response RE the way and message of the way via media …by way of music … bicycles (vehicles
* to convey and envelope so said message to*
Glad to know you’re ‘..talking about this ..’ And that [you] are “excited again”.
For tis the way - media/video/music/games (aka Ceremony) - this present day - to ‘reach’ people, thus opening &/or broadening their access and opportunity for “revolutionizing their world” (thus ours).
Yes I have ideas. Yet no time to add now as me and a bunch of Powerful Beautiful Women are going to do magic on the dance floor aka “dancing”!!

I was interested in your show mainly to see how you live off the grid and what that entails. Show more of what your doing day to day, riding to work, jamming with friends, kicking it around the river, building your homes, moving people by bike, composting, whatever you do instead of watching tv or movies. I think that people like me who have an interested in shedding their petroleum habits would be quit intrigued. There is a big gap between the average mtv watcher’s world and yours, portraying the differences would be what would keep me watching. From what I see, you have different views on everything; use this as a springboard to launch them out into the young minds of America. Thanks for doing the show; you have changed one person’s mind of how life works.

I’ve started a new blog for a cleanse that I’m beginning today: American Detox. I started it with friend so we could support each other as we do a cleanse/fast, but I can see it growing into something bigger. This does relate to the show…it could be really interesting to make it clear that by giving up certain things you are actually opening yourself up to an untold number of possibilities. I like the idea of trading things for possibilities. I see my forthcoming fast as an adventure and I have the same sort of fear and trepidation I might have if I was going down the Colorado, yet I’m not going anywhere. I like that. A homebound adventure.
BTW, what’s Kimji smoking?

Kipchoge, I am crying. I tried my hardest…voted…told my family and friends to vote…all were interested and helping…had hopes. But not too suprised as mtv-is not my most favorite music channel. Anyways, I appreciate you…inspired by you…and just would like to give you a hug. I am sorry…Dreams become reality Kipchoge…and your life has just begun. Good trying…and successful you really are in many eyes. I like your updated website. It is very good. I would also like to be on a link on your website somewhere if you can…under music or something like that. Check it out. I am part of you, xtracycle, and a very big supporter of what you represent. Thanks-See you soon. Love Tamara Venus Star

O, bummer. I’m finding it real easy to suppose that those grapes were, in fact, very sour, and I hope you are too.

Well, it makes me happy to read about what you have to say about Mtv. My original impression was one of massive confusion. Why would people with value systems give a rats ass about another corporate stunt to boost ratings and convince kids that watching shows about contrived reality is actually better than real life? Thats actually why I googled you to begin with. I’m glad you had some things to clarify for me and if its any consellation, I would’ve watched, hell– do you need any new friends? I’ll come live there. Looks like paradise.

I just wanted to let you know I think MTV (or its viewers, or whoever it is that actually chose which mini-shows to cancel) is extremely stupid. I feel like it’s time for a reality show where viewers can actually learn about a different way of life. I am personally really curious how you can manage to live so simply within a society that has tried to make it as difficult as possible to do so, and I’m glad at least there’s a blog where I can read more about it. I guess it goes to show people just want to see art that mirrors their own life, or perhaps something they can look at and fantasize about living in a more luxurious fashion. Weird. Maybe if this show (which I think should actually be called “The Reality Show Show” or “The Meta Reality Show”) aired in Europe, the choices would have been made differently.

Hi, my name is Chris, I’m here with my girlfriend Steph. We loved watching The Reality Show because we both enjoyed watching the Kipchoge mini episodes. Once we saw the episode and it was finished we would watch the rest but the best part was over.
We were very anxious to experience ’shrimp fest’!!!!
We felt like this show should win and I would repeatedly vote off other constestants. I think the problem is that maybe someone told everyone on this website to vote for Kipchoge, when what you want to actually do is vote anyone else since it is voting who gets ditched.
My and my girlfriend couldn’t understand why week after week Kipchoge was on the bottom 3, and finally we hear that kipchoge is voted off!!!
Can you put the mini episodes online so that we may learn about shrimp fest?
We believe that you can run these mini episodes from your website. Respond if you need guidance for this sort of activity.
Signed,
Out of the Woods fans

yet another fan. I was extremely disapointed with mtv’s choice to vote you off. Being the enviromental friendly hippy loving vegan that I am, I was looking forward to a show that actually gave something to the world and its viewers. You deffinatly need to keep this good thing going. Build up your supporters and get ready for a revolution because your fans will not let this show or your way of life fall between the cracks.
the biggest kipchoge fan there is…. Sarah. =)
