The Irony Deepens

12:26 am, by tricky coyote

ok, so as if it wasn’t enough to be alive and witness first hand real other people being alive, now reality t.v. has brought you the option of vegetating on the beanbag while witnessing other people being alive so you no longer have to. And if that wasn’t enough, now there’s a show that allows you to vegetate while watching other people act out (err, I mean, live) pseudo-lives (I should know, I’m on it) while competing to be alive as good as possible so they can win the opportunity to live some more so you don’t have to. And if that wasn’t enough, now you don’t even have to vegetate on the beanbag watching all this actual living transpire on your television, because you can instead read the blow by blow of these pseudo livers out-competing eachother on an up-to-the-minute Web report. What’s a guy to do? I’m not sure whether to leave my reality and run off with the t.v. or leave my reality and run off with the computer. I want to see a real show about a geek who reads about a reality show about himself on his computer while it’s playing and being simultaneously filmed in the background, and I want to watch it on one of those ScrewTooth telepathicvisions that they implant in your molar while i’m getting it worked on at the dentist who’s listening to it on her CHICKEN!!

ok, so maybe the strangest part about this whole critique i didn’t even get until i had already posted and moved on: i read the blow by blow word for word. Irony becomes especially ironic when it bites your ass without you even realizing it.

Perhaps it was a vapid, vacuous show. Never did see it, but will still continue to vote, daily. For the off chance that reason will somehow prevail…..

Keep meeting such cool, sharp, interesting people involved in some way with this whole movement – from bike enthustiasts to local food advocates to watershed/veggie oil/organic champions……

So much incredible energy. And less than zero top-down leadership. And such a hunger for direction — for a few rallying, charismatic voices to emerge…..

So I’ll keep voting for the Ninjas/Xtracycle MTV takeover.
